6 Ways to Staying Positive Yourself

Staying positive can be hard work, especially when there are so many things out there and so many people out there telling us that we shouldn’t be proud of ourselves or happy with ourselves. There are so many things that I do that help me stay positive, many of them are things I have just recently started and I can already feel the difference in my mental state!

Surround yourself with positive people.
This one is a big one because the people you surround yourself with can have a HUGE impact on your attitude and your feelings towards life and yourself. Make sure every one in your life is serving you in some way, that you are both able to take and give to your relationship because if you’re giving 100% of the time and not receiving anything or vice versa, your relationship isn’t working for you. Recently I started participating in online health and fitness challenge groups and they have been so motivating, so inspiring and just absolutely amazing for my health. In addition to having accountability for my workouts and nutrition, I have a great group of girls to turn to for support on other things in life as well.

Personal Development
This is a new one for me, but I feel like I have come such a long way from the little amounts of personal development I have done. My reasons for starting personal development is because of the online health and fitness support groups I have been in lately. For anyone that thinks that personal development is a waste of time or money I seriously think you should reconsider because anything that lifts my mood is worth the time and money. The two books that I have read so far are You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero and The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy. Both are incredible books that really make you look at your life from a different perspective and reconsider things you do every day. I’m not saying I have made drastic changes from reading either of these books, but they have made me more aware of choices I make in my every day life and how to really do things with a purpose.

Exercise Regularly
This is a no brainer for me, but not so much for a lot of people. Exercise literally fixes anything, and I really truly believe that. Exercise will release endorphins and make you happy, make you look great, which in turn will make you happy and just make you feel more confident and comfortable in your own skin. Exercise also will give you a sense of accomplishment because you can always set new goals for yourself and achieve new things. It makes you feel productive and healthy and like you are doing something great for yourself because you are! If there is one thing you take away from this post its that exercise can help ANYONE and that’s why everyone should do it.

Do something you enjoy everyday!
This makes sense, obviously doing something you enjoy every day will make you a more positive person but so many of us rarely do it. We go to work, go to the gym, come home make dinner, watch T.V. or do some homework and then do it all over again. I want you to make it a point to do something you love every single day. It can be as simple as treating yourself to a fancy cup of coffee, or going to the beach for an hour, or reading a chapter of a good book or going out to dinner with someone special. Make time for things that make you happy because it really will be worth it.

Meditating is something I have been working on for a long time! My ADD brain is far from good at it but I try, and I love it. Right now my goal is to mediate for 2 minutes every day. I do it right after my morning workouts and its great. You can’t say you don’t have time for something that takes 2 minutes either so there is literally no excuse! Thinking about nothing isn’t really a possibility for me just yet so I try and think of one thought or phrase each day. Something like “I am strong” “I am confident” “I will do great things” is all it takes to really pump you up for a great day.

Reflect on things you are thankful for
The idea of reflecting on your day and being thankful has been in the back of my head for awhile. I got the idea from one of my best friends, Lily, also known as my best travel buddy. She writes down one good thing everyday, and she has been doing this for the past couple of years I think. She seriously she has a note on her phone that you could scroll down for hours. Anyway I started to do this too pretty recently because in reading one of my books it asked me to reflect on my friends and my favorite qualities. Anyway I got to Lily and my favorite quality about her is that she is literally always happy, always positive, always looking to have a great time and always looking to enjoy every second of her life. My thought was I want to be like that, I want to be that positive all the time, so I started thinking about what she does and the first thing that came to my mind was her ‘good things list’ on her phone.

Although she is just an incredible person all around, I think that list makes her that much happier, and more positive. She gets to reflect on the good things that happen to her each day and so many of the things on that list are so simple, like ‘got lunch with a friend’ or ‘spent the day at the beach with my family. But even the little things add up and remind her how lucky she is and how loved she is. So even though this is one thing I am still working on incorporating into my daily routine I think it was 100% worth mentioning because I know it can really make a difference.
